What the petition asks
Council Tax has been going up Excessive amounts every year and we are getting less services for our money each year. The Government should fund more to councils with the Tax already paid to them by the Taxpayers. Wages/inflation is not as high as the rises which most households can now ill afford.
Libraries, Schools,Police and services are being reduced or closed down every year. This has to stop. School class sizes are rising, policing and services have been decimated. My council tax is now almost 10% of my wage with tax and national insurance this take my tax liability to over 45% for a low income family, surely this cannot continue. The excuse is social care but this is also taken out from our taxes and Nat Insurance contributions. Stop this exploitation now. The government do not care.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Local councils are responsible for deciding the rate of council tax in their area. However, there is a legal cap on how much they can increase council tax without asking local people to vote on it in a referendum.
The Government has announced that this cap will be increased for 2018-19. You can find out more about this here:

You could start a new petition calling on the Government not to make these changes, if that's what you'd like to happen.
