No to council tax increase!

Rejected 12 signatures

What the petition asks

Amber Rudd, wants to increase council tax to boost police funding. A £12 increase per household in council tax bills will put further stress on families. Sadly much of the foreign aid is used as a slush fund. Thus, this petition proposes diverting foreign aid funds to the police.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Local councils are responsible for deciding the rate of council tax in their area. However, there is a legal cap on how much they can increase council tax without asking local people to vote on it in a referendum.

The Government has announced that this cap will be increased for 2018-19. You can find out more about this here:

You could start a new petition calling on the Government not to make these changes, if that's what you'd like to happen.
