Use of private registrations on any vehicle and display any way without altering

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

DVLA Charge a fortune for registrations and say you can’t put a newer plate onto an older car ie AA13 Could not go onto a car from 1999 they say because it could be sold as a newer car but the log book shows the age of the vehicle. DVLA should also allow you to display how you want
The number plate should be able to be displayed as you want example AA13 AAA Could be AA 13AAA as long as the letters or number are not altered or misrepresented and are within the number plate area, and should be able to go on any vehicle as the onus to check the age of the vehicle can be done via any vehicle app for free and via the log book thus proving the age of the car so it could not be misrepresented in any way at all and the true age of the vehicle can always be checked also via HPI

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. It is already legal to attach a newer number plate to an older car, so we're not sure what else you'd like Government or Parliament to do.

You can find out more about how to put a private registration number on a vehicle here:

https://www.gov.uk/put-registration-number-vehicle

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, if you would like the Government or Parliament to remove the condition that you cannot use a number plate if it makes the vehicle look newer than it is, you could start a new petition asking for that to happen.
