Make irrelevant subjects such as Latin voluntary in schools below GCSE age
Rejected
13 signatures
What the petition asks
Subjects such as Latin are irrelevant to pupils from year 7-8/9 and they are being forced to take it. Rather than having subjects like this in place, add more subjects on the future life as an adult. Add a current affairs class or possibly currenct politics or explanation of political parties.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Latin isn't compulsory in schools.
Teaching Latin, and making it compulsory, is a choice for individual schools or academy trusts to take.
You could raise this issue with your school's governing body.
