Stop the council tax raise

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Alot of working people and none working people just simply cannot afford to pay more money out to the council.

Unless the government is willing to up the pay for people and the living wage for people not working or able to work, then it should stay the same.
Take more money from the people that actually earn over 100 a year rather than the poor

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Local councils are responsible for deciding the rate of council tax in their area. However, there is a legal cap on how much they can increase council tax without asking local people to vote on it in a referendum.

The Government has announced that this cap will be increased for 2018-19. You can find out more about this here:

You could start a new petition calling on the Government not to make these changes, if that's what you'd like to happen.
