We should have a State Funeral for Professor Stephen Hawking

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Professor Stephen Hawking was a cosmic juggernaut. His contribution to science and our understanding of the universe was immense and unsurpassed. If anyone deserves the full respect of a State Funeral, he does.

Please show your support.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The Government and the House of Commons do not have the power to decide that someone should receive a state funeral. You can find out more about this here:

http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN06600

You could start a new petition asking the House of Commons to ask the Queen for a state funeral to be given, and for the House of Commons to provide the money for a state funeral.
