What the petition asks
As a victim of an assault by a taxi driver, I feel that for the safety of passengers and also taxi drivers it should a legal requirement that all taxi's, both private and black cabs have CCTV fitted. This would reduce the amount of assaults, abuse and theft and would act as a definite deterrent
Statistics from the Metropolitan Police Service have revealed that alleged sexual assaults committed by taxi or private hire drivers have risen by 20% in three years.
According to figures released under freedom of information laws, at least 337 assaults were reported between April 2016 and March 2017 in England and Wales, up from 282 in 2014-15. These figures show that there needs to be further restrictions and increased monitoring in place.
