make sign language an option at schools alongside foreign languages

What the petition asks
not all children go abroad yet have to choose a foreign language to study. many children use makaton and sign language due to varying speech, language and communication difficulties...give children the option to make their own choice by adding it to the curriculum.
communication is one of the most important skills we need in life. children should be offered the opportunity to extend their knowledge and awareness of sign language enabling them to communicate effectively with others who use it.
statistics show many children with speech and language delays which can impact on behaviour throughout schooling.
communication for all. if foreign language is an option then so should sign language!

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
It's already possible for schools to teach BSL and Makaton, if they choose to do so.
You could start a new petition asking for British Sign Language to be added to the National Curriculum, if that's what you would like to happen.
