Petition · past parliament

Plastic straws should not be on show and should have to be asked for.

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

An item that is used without thought, once then thrown away. Many people would not think to have a straw had they not seen them. Many people do not realise their impact. Plastic straws are extremely hard to recycle and break down into micro plastics which are extremely dangerous for marine wild life
Plastic straws are one of the top 10 items found during coastal clean ups.
If plastic straws were not on show the usage of them would decrease.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

At the moment, this isn't the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament. It's up to individual bars, cafes and restaurants to decide whether they want to display straws.

If you would like the Government to ban the sale of single use plastic straws and cutlery in England, you might like to sign this petition instead:

Ban the sale of single use plastic straws and cutlery in England

Otherwise, you could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
