What the petition asks
All NHS staff get a payrise of at least 6.5% (and up to 29%) over the next 3 years except doctors and dentists. Since 2008, doctors have experienced the largest drop in earnings of all professions, with consultants seeing a 19 per cent fall in pay, junior doctors 21 per cent and GPs 20 per cent.
The BMA said that doctors' pay should be increased in line with the wider economy, and it has called for the pay of all UK doctors to be increased in line with the RPI (Retail Price Index), plus £800 or 2 per cent, whichever is greater.
