What the petition asks
The previous immigration law allows anyone who has been in the UK for 14years to be eligible for permanent residence. However, this was removed in 2010 with government view to removing all overstayers even if they have been in the UK for more than 14years.
However, recent government reports showed there have been no changes to the number of people deported who have been in the UK for 14years or more as these sets of people are either already have a settled family.
In the light of the above, the government should introduce legal renewable temporary stay for anyone who has been in the UK for more than 14 years without a criminal record so that these sets of people will be able to work legally, contribute to the UK economy positively and pay taxes.
