What the petition asks
Britain has been an island for over eight millennia, and over this period many have travelled here to make it their home. The arrival of the MV Empire Windrush on 22nd June 1948 heralded the first known mass migration to this island and marked a step change in the story of migration to Britain.
22nd June each year should be recognised as Windrush Day - a National Day of commemoration and celebration of migration and migrant communities in Britain. The Windrush Generation are part of the public memory of British history and achievement and thus should never be treated as criminals or easy targets as part of the current hostile immigration environment.
