Petition · past parliament

Make it illegal for people to fat shame, either in person or on the Internet.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

It’s becoming more and more acceptable for people to be targeted for their weight and shape. People are protected in law regardless of their colour, religion, sexual orientation, gender etc., yet people who are overweight are being insulted daily for carrying more weight than someone else.
It’s disgusting that due to television programmes that focus on weight issues, government propaganda that focuses on weight is encouraging people to be cruel and bully people for their appearance. Fat shaming must be outlawed!

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what actions and behaviour you'd like to be defined as "fat shaming".

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
