Allow individuals with Coeliac Disease to join the British Armed Forces

What the petition asks

Currently you cannot join any British Armed Forces with Coeliac Disease as it may affect operational ability. Vegetarian/ Halal diets are provided- but no GF. Coeliacs can be asymptomatic and with a GF diet would be an asset to the Armed Forces. Refusal to supply a Gluten Free diet is discriminatory

The Israeli Army has started supplying Gluten Free diets to it's soldiers proving it possible.Refusal to provide a GF catering option in the UK Forces is discriminatory. Coeliac sufferers should be assessed on an individual basis when applying to enlist. There is an undisclosed number of serving personnel,diagnosed following enlistment - some required early discharge
/ medical downgrading - but many who continue active service. Exact numbers unknown as previous FOI requests were rejected
