Train Education Workers on School Refusal (condition) & Stop Attendance Fines

What the petition asks
Education employees are actioning poor attendance through the penalty system as they don’t see School Refusal as a Mental Health issue. We would like to see staff, trained to recognise & act accordingly as mental health is not a punishable condition
School Refusal Support Services was set up to help & support families enduring this crisis in their child’s everyday life.Staff are misinterpreting what they see & instead see the child as a truant.Staff need to understand & be trained in the differences, have the skills to support families, recognise the child's needs, work with families to move forward & not apply fines. There is a plethora of feedback from parents to suggest that un/diagnosed spectrum conditions underpin School Refusal.
