Male Suicide Prevention Strategy

Closed 213 signatures

What the petition asks

According to the ONS, "of the 5,965 suicides registered in 2016, a total of 4,508 were male and 1,457 were female." We call on HM Government to take urgent and meaningful action to identify main factors that contribute to men in the UK being three times more likely to commit suicide than women.
We call on the PM to establish a panel on Male Suicide Prevention, whose job would be to undertake public consultation and produce a comprehensive report on male suicide in the UK; with key findings and recommendations leading to the publication of the Government's first ever UK-wide Male Suicide Prevention Strategy.

"The fall in suicide rates from 2015 to 2016 is the largest decrease in 20 years. It fell for both males and females in the UK, although men still account for 3/4 of all suicides."
