Fund research into carbohydrate polymers as an alternative to plastic

What the petition asks
As you are aware, in the UK we create tonnes of plastic waste daily and this is becoming an increasing problem. We need to cut down on the plastic we are using. To overcome this, we can use carbohydrate polymers (cellophane) but the problem is there is not enough funding to support research into it.
