Mandatory right for substance misuse clients to have an independent advocate

Closed 33 signatures

What the petition asks

We want it to be a statutory right for people with substance misuse issues to have access to an independent advocate, like other types of patients in the Mental Health Act 2010. We feel this will allow dual diagnosis clients who can't access mental health services better access to support networks.
50% of people with severe mental health issues have substance misuse issues.
37% of alcohol abusers have a mental health issue.
53% of drug users also have mental health issues.
These people cant access independent advocates through the mental health act because mental health services want these people to deal with their addictions before they commence treatment for mental health.
