To allow private rail firms to re-open and own railway lines for public service
Rejected
12 signatures
What the petition asks
Private railway firms should be allowed to own, operate the railway lines and stations, (with subsidies where there is a local need) that were closed under Beeching. Many people can no longer afford to learn to drive. For many isolated communities it would breathe new life.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. It is already possible for private rail firms to do this, if they wish to and if they receive the relevant planning permissions. We're therefore not sure what further action you want the Government or Parliament to take.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a new petition asking the Government to provide funding as an incentive for private rail companies to reopen lines, if that's what you'd like to happen.
