Lowering bus and train prices for students

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Travel fares should be lowered for students with a valid student ID card or document that states that they are a student. Bus fares are too expensive and is affecting our financial and social lives due to being unable to get to work or school to earn the money to travel and to have an education.
As a student going to and from college and work everyday I cannot afford to pay up to £8 a day to travel to achieve the necessary qualifications for my education and experience from work. I, and most of my friends and many other students have great difficulty getting to and from work and home or to their education because they cannot afford travel fares. Some students may not have jobs to pay for travel or the funds to do so anyway and it’s deeply affecting their reputation at work and school.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issues you raise. The price of train and bus tickets are the responsibility of the train and bus operating companies.

You could start a new petition asking the Government to fund a student travel discount card, if that's what you want to happen. If you want the fund free travel on public transport for all students in England, you may wish to sign this petition instead: Fund free travel on public transport for all students in England.
