What the petition asks
The effects of Domestic Violence are far reaching and do not stop at the physical abuse, the victims often lose their jobs, homes, friends and mental health, often resulting in diagnoses of PTSD, anxiety, stress and depression.
These crimes should be dealt with more severely with longer sentences
These crimes should be dealt with more severely with longer sentences
Too many common assault convictions at Magistrates Court, with maximum sentences that are too short.
Please either give Magistrates the power to give longer sentences, stop automatically halving sentences or allow cases where perpetrators have similar convictions to be sent to trial at Crown Court, the injuries sustained are far more than common assault.
It takes strength to report abuse but women are let down by the judicial system, so many crimes are going unreported. Retrain magistrates and CPS

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a new petition asking for the minimum sentence for domestic violence to be increased, if that's what you want to happen.
