What the petition asks
In 2017 The UN has approved a Treaty which prohibits nations from developing, testing, manufacturing, transferring, possessing, using or threatening to use nuclear weapons, or allowing these to be stationed on their territory. 122 countries were in favour; 69 did not vote, including the UK.
The Doomsday Clock, published by the distinguished Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, now stands at 2 minutes to midnight; the closest to total catastrophe since the Cold War. Nuclear weapons are the most destructive, inhumane and indiscriminate weapopns ever created. A single nuclear warhead, could kill millions of people. In the age of cyber warfare, the global 15,000 warheads pose a threat to human survival. The UK must lead the way to a nuclear-free and safer world by joining the UN Treaty.
