What the petition asks
Supervised drug consumption facilities have been successfully operating in Europe for 30 years. They reduce the risks of disease transmission through unhygienic injecting, prevent drug-related overdose deaths & connect high-risk drug users with treatment and other health and social services.
Drug Consumption Rooms also seek to contribute to a reduction in drug use in public places and the presence of discarded needles and other related public order problems linked with open drug scenes. Typically, drug consumption rooms provide drug users with: sterile injecting equipment; counselling services before, during and after
drug consumption; emergency care in the event of overdose; and primary medical care and referral to appropriate social healthcare and addiction treatment services.
