Release IPP prisoners whose sentence exceeds current sentence guidelines

Closed 115 signatures

What the petition asks

There are many people still serving an ipp sentence (imprisonment for public protection.) Although the law changed in 2012 to get rid of this sentence as this was classed as inhumane. Many people are still serving this sentence. My partner is currently 1 of 3000 people who are on this sentence.
These people are serving their time but why should these prisoners have to serve something that was abolished?
why should the prison system have one sentence for one and another for someone else who did the same crime but a few years later?
I am proposing that parliament brings the ipp sentence inline with the sentence that was brought in to replace it.
This will help address the over crowding.

In 2017 there were still 3,350 IPPs still in prison.
