Petition · past parliament
Rid the House of Commons of the current Speaker with immediate effect
Rejected
10 signatures
What the petition asks
The House of Commons is a publicly elected chamber of Parliament. The Role of the Speaker is to chair debates in the Commons chamber. The principle role is to keep order during debates and to call MP’s to speak. The Speaker must remain politically impartial at all times.
Why it was rejected
It was about honours or appointments, which petitions cannot cover.
The resignation of an MP, including the Speaker, would be an individual decision for that person, and not a decision for the Government or Parliament as a whole.
