What the petition asks
The deaths in the UK over the last 12 months is intolerable and must be addressed. 272 people died and more than 1,800 reported attacks from January to November 2018. There were 40,147 offences in the 12 months ending in March 2018,
Knife crime is a persistent and worrying concern, especially as it impacts particularly upon young people and the disadvantaged, and various remedies have been tried over the years.
In the year ending March 2018, there were around 40,100 (selected) offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in England/Wales. This is the highest number since the earliest point for which comparable data are available. 268 Homicides- 2017/18 increased from 216 - 2016/17
