Petition · past parliament
Review MP expenses, regulate what can be claimed for and stop excessive claims
Rejected
12 signatures
What the petition asks
Some MPs have claimed expenses that total in excess of £200,000, this is insulting to taxpayers especially when trivial things can be claimed for like jaffa cakes, TV licences, energy bills for second homes. MPs should be responsible with expense claims and held to account when abusing public funds.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
