What the petition asks

Did you know that in this day and age with food banks in existence the government still collect VAT on basic foods like:

Potato crisps
Biscuits
Ice cream
Chocolate bars
Mineral water
Fizzy drinks
Alcohol free beer and wine
Fruit squash

This isn’t a time to get all judgemental on whether these food and drinks are unhealthy or not. People are starving because they can’t afford to eat!

Knocking VAT off the selling price mean that the cost of basic food and drink items could be:

6p for a pack of crisps
1p for a biscuit
10p for a choc ice
2p for 250ml of fizzy drink

Make these high calorie per pence foods more available to reduce malnutrition. Make your food shopping budget go further.
