What the petition asks
In the event an MP decides to resign from a party they should automatically face a by election as they were voted in under a party mandate.
These actions damage public confidence in parliament at a time when confidence is already at its lowest. If these MPs wish to stand as independent then they must be voted in as independent not change mid term as it makes a mockery to parliament and our voting system.
Why it was rejected
There was already a petition about this issue. Duplicates are rejected so signatures collect in one place.
