MPs who resign from their party should have to step down from their seats

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

In the event an MP decides to resign from a party they should automatically face a by election as they were voted in under a party mandate.
These actions damage public confidence in parliament at a time when confidence is already at its lowest. If these MPs wish to stand as independent then they must be voted in as independent not change mid term as it makes a mockery to parliament and our voting system.
