Petition · past parliament

Make it mandatory for MPs who quit their party to resign and fight by-elections.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

When an MP was elected as part of a party, but then quits, one cannot assume that they will automatically have a mandate to continue to serve their constituents.

It is only just, that the constituents are given an opportunity to decide whether or not they want the MP to continue to serve them.

Why it was rejected

There was already a petition about this issue. Duplicates are rejected so signatures collect in one place.
