What the petition asks
Tongue-tie (or ankyloglossia) is a ‘congenital condition in which the tip of the tongue cannot be protruded beyond the lower incisor teeth because of a short frenulum’ (Wallace, 1963). Tongue-ties can cause problems with feeding / sleeping / speech
For weeks after my son was born we had issues with his feeding, he would scream in agony for 8 hours solidly each day, could not feed or be pacified. A total of seven health professionals didn’t / or couldn’t diagnose his condition. There should be more training to spot the condition and it should form part of a routine, standard check at birth for every newborn.
