Petition · past parliament
Abolish the surcharge on vehicle excise duty for cars with a list price of £40k.

What the petition asks
Cars that have a list price of £40,000 or more have a surcharge of £310 on the vehicle excise duty until the car is 6 years old. This results in the annual excise duty being £450. This is suppressing new car sales and the second hand car market at a time where car manufacturers are struggling.
Cars that are several years old and have a relatively low value still fall within this category which is unfair on the consumer.
