Petition · past parliament

Ban food waste for supermarkets and restaurants and donate the food instead.

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

In France, grocery stores and supermarkets must donate unsold food to charity, but the UK wastes food from supermarkets and restaurants when hundreds of thousands cannot afford it. Food is wasted before it reaches its best before date when the product has not spoiled but surpassed its peak quality.
Globally by 2030, 2.1 billion tonnes of food will annually either be lost or thrown away. This is equivalent to 66 tonnes of food per second. The only way we can stop this is by taking action.
