Petition · past parliament

Make the Speaker of the House more accountable for his or her decisions.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

The Speaker must be accountable for their decisions. Otherwise it undermines faith in the business of the House. We need a clear, modern & transparent set of rules & an independent adjudication panel to make sure the Speakers decisions are impartial.
This panel could also review appeals.
The impartiality of the Speaker should never come into question. In order to achieve this, the rules and guidelines for the Speaker should be up to date, transparent and clear.
It is important that the public maintains faith and trust in Parliament, in order to achieve this, key roles such as the Speaker must be made accountable and have clear guidelines that Parliamentarians & the wider public can follow and accept.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what you mean by "more accountable" or which decisions you would like this to apply to.
