We demand that hard shoulders are reinstalled on “smart” motorways.

What the petition asks

The M1 and M5 are now “smart” motorways and have no hard shoulder for vehicle breakdowns etc.

This is NOT safe and there have already been lives lost thanks to this ridiculous idea. It’s time to put it right and have some common sense.

Why it was rejected

There was already a petition about this issue. Duplicates are rejected so signatures collect in one place.

Scrap smart motorways and bring back the safety of the hard shoulder.
