What the petition asks
Independent agencies are a good option for LAs looking to place children in some circumstances. However the lack of LA carers and the higher pay for IFAs creates a situation where local authority carers are extremely rare. IFAs currently are holding LAs to randsome as they have no other choices.
Gov can support financially, help LAs invest in higher pay, benefits, national recruitment ,support LA carers etc as an incentive for them to be foster carers for their council instead of privately
This will also relieve strain on resources. Placing one child in a IFA is likely to cost at least 500,000 PER CHILD if they stay in care long term and this is likely to include a move out of area, school, communities and extended family + friends network and more likely to result in multiple moves
