What the petition asks
Skills tests are stopping wonderful potential teachers from fulfilling their dream.
Current teachers have never undertaken the skills test and have the freedom to teach and some badly at it. Skills test in numeracy and literacy should only be taken if candidates have not achieved a grade C or above

Skills test in numeracy and literacy should only be taken if candidates have not achieved a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths or if they intend to teach English or Maths as a subject.
Entry requirements should be a candidates ability to teach, a degree and GCSEs. No student will ever appear and say "Sir, I have achieved 23 out of 255, how much is that as a percent without a calculator. Your 18 seconds start now." It's rediculous and a skill not needed in teaching.
