Automatically suspend any MP who is jailed until a recall petition has been held

Closed 228 signatures

What the petition asks

Change the procedures of the House of Commons to automatically suspend any MP who has been convicted in a Court and sent to prison (for any length of time).

A recall petition would be automatically triggered and the MP would not sit until its conclusion or would face a by-election.
It is unacceptable to have convicted criminals making laws.

Any MP who has been jailed is subject to a recall petition to allow their constituents to remove them. The recall petition is triggered either by an appeal not being filed; or when all appeals are rejected.

The MP would be suspended without pay until the recall petition concluded and only allowed to sit in the House if a by-election were not triggered.
