Petition · past parliament
MPs who profit financially from EU should recuse themselves from EU votes
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
Currently MPs and Lords can debate and vote on EU related matters even if they benefit financially from the EU, (e.g., subsidies, salaries, pensions, investments). This is a clear conflict of interest and should be avoided for the sake of good governance.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
It would be the responsibility of individual MPs to decide to abstain from a vote.
