What the petition asks

By law it is only required to have 6 weeks maternity leave by your employer with 90% pay. Anything over 6 weeks is statutory maternity pay which is £145.18 a week. People are having to come back to work after 6 weeks as they can’t afford to pay bills etc on statutory maternity pay. PLEASE SIGN!

People don’t want to leave their babies after 6 weeks but some don’t have a choice. It is 2019 this needs to be changed now. The cost of living has gone up, people can’t live off statutory maternity pay. People are on minimum wage and their employers only give maternity leave which is required by law. If I was to have children, I would have no option but to return to work after 6 weeks as I would need to pay my bills, which is impossible on the statutory maternity pay. It needs to be changed!
