Petition · past parliament

Keep LGBTQ education in schools, including the No Outsiders project.

What the petition asks

In an increasingly more diverse society not just in terms of sexuality but also in terms or race, culture and religion it is of crucial importance that our children learn about respect, tolerance and kindness towards people who are different from themselves.
Schools are the best place to do this.
From Nursery onwards our children are taught to be respectful of different cultures, colours and religions. Why be silent about sexuality? No matter what background we are from our children are going to meet people different from themselves, even LGBTQ people. Education causes no harm but ignorance does. LGBQ children will benefit from knowing they have the same rights and are entitled to the same respect as everyone else.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions which call for actions that are the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the No Outsiders scheme isn't a Government scheme. It's a decision for individual schools whether they wish to adopt it, not the UK Government or Parliament as a whole.
