What the petition asks
This is a petition started by a group of young women to remove the luxury tax from biodegradable sanitary items. We feel that the environmental impact of disposable sanitary products is contributing greatly to climate change.
An individual goes through approximately 11,000 disposable pads and/or tampons in a lifetime. This builds up and ecologists report that one pack of pads contains the same amount of plastic as four plastic bags. If the government removed the tax from sustainable and eco-friendly sanitary products this would encourage people to use these items.
