Do not extradite Julian Assange to the United States of America
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
Julian Assange is due to be extradited to the USA for publishing Wikileaks. This is setting a dangerous precedent for journalists who challenge the status quo, and limits freedom of speech against powerful elites and governments.
The UN have moved against the arbitrary detention of Assange and recommend his release, as well as compensation for his deprivation of liberty (February 2016).
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
This is a decision for the courts, which are independent of the UK Government and Parliament.
