What the petition asks
In line with the UKs commitment to reduce carbon emissions in accordance with the Paris Agreement VAT should be dropped for 3 years 2020-23. This should drive the adoption of electric cars and support decarbonisation in line with national electricity generation. To be reviewed for renewal upon end.
Against 1990 figures electricity generation has reduced CO2 emissions by 59% though transport has lagged with only a 3% reduction. This is due to the limitation of technological advancement on the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and the inability to implement Carbon Capture and Storage on transport. The only practical approach to this problem is to advance the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EV). This also has health benefits as is becoming increasingly reported.
