What the petition asks
The irresponsible use of disposable barbecues in high-risk fire areas are causing numerous wildfires, resulting in horrific damage. On 21/04/19, a huge blaze was started on Marsden Moor, proven to be caused by a disposable barbecue. This is just one of a number of moorland fires in 2019.
On 20/04/19, there was a huge blaze on Ilkley moor. At the height of the blaze, it covered more than 25,000sq. metres.
We need to take better care of our moorland and national parks. Banning the sale of disposable barbecues will not completely erase the problem, but it will offer a huge step in the correct direction. And this will relieve unnecessary pressure on our emergency services.
