What the petition asks
The provision of a bus pass and tv license are a major lifeline for many older people who are subject to isolation and loneliness. The proposal from
House of Lords Select Committee is in direct contradiction to the Governments stated concern about loneliness and isolation.
House of Lords Select Committee is in direct contradiction to the Governments stated concern about loneliness and isolation.
“In the last few decades, loneliness has escalated from personal misfortune into a social epidemic. More and more of us live alone. We work at home more. We spend a greater part of our day alone than we did 10 years ago. It sometimes feels like our best friend is the smartphone.”
Loneliness is not exclusive to older people, but this group, in my experience (as a Housing Professional) are impacted at a much higher level.
