Petition · past parliament

Ban cheap mots and increase price of mot to help raise the test standard.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

The price of an mot hasn't risen since 2010 when it went up by 85p.
We are seeing more cheap alternative mot stations charging as little as £10. This just lowers the testing standard and prevents mot testers wages going up with the cost of living.
Average gas safe certificate £80
Average PAT testing certificate £70
Average fire extinguisher certificate £30 call out +£5-£10 per extinguisher.

The MOT test is just as important if not more important than these other checks.
As a tester you are ensuring that a vehicle is road worthy and not putting yours or others lives at risk.

Mot testers are there to make sure UK cars are safe.
But we haven't seen significant wage and price rises in nearly 10 years.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We're not sure what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

You could start a petition that calls on the Government to set a new higher price, at a rate you think suitable, for the MOT and require all providers to charge that rate, if that is what you would like to see happen.
