What the petition asks
There is no current minimum sentence for rape cases within the UK, and for many cases the sentence is often lower than ten years.
The trauma caused to victims and families often lasts lifetimes, and many rapists serve a short sentence, and continue with their lives.

The prosecution of rape has fallen to a 5 year low, with only 37% of cases being led to prosecution. Increasing the sentence and removing the chance of early release may allow victims to feel safer in reporting and prosecuting attackers.
