What the petition asks
If during the year PAYE tax is deducted incorrectly (e.g. via an incorrect tax code) it can take 6 months to get the money reclaimed, even if the error is highlighted on day one. In an age of digital transactions, this should be re-paid efficiently as many low incomes depend on correct taxes and pay
From my experience, it has become clear that a timely refund is almost impossible and trying to get hold of anybody is a nightmare at HMRC and individuals are powerless. Those on a low income can ill afford the stress of not being able to pay bills, supply children with food or pay the mortgage with this length delay.
For example, I contacted and was told "Too near the end of the tax year, you'll have to wait". Now well into the new tax year "Can't do anything as we don't have a P11D".
