Regulate care work and require carers to register to practice

What the petition asks
Following another severe abuse scandal where the UK’s most vulnerable people are being abused by care workers. The government must take action and make care work a professional occupation where employees must hold a high level of qualification and sign a register to practice.
Job adverts for care workers state that experience and qualifications are desirable but not essential as training can be provided. This can lead to employment of people who do not understand the care needs and ethics involved in supporting vulnerable people. DBS checks are a legal requirement but this is not a measure of an employee’s values or morals. Making care work a professional career where a person must hold a high level of qualification can reduce the abuse of the UK’s vulnerable people.
